Books for Benghazi was a one-to-the-world campaign spearheaded by Farmwell Station Middle School Reading Specialist Lisa Brunson, ELL teacher Shahrazad Kablan, and Language Arts teacher Natalie Beamer. Books for Benghazi was a cross curriculum focused on addressing reading, writing, communication, research, and media literacy. Students connected with world issues and challenges faced by students from Libya who are out of school due to the war. Through the use of technology resources including a webquest, social media, and a Skype discussion with constitution expert from Libya, students analyzed problems and formulated solutions to help. Student led the creation of advertisement literature and collected over 2400 books. They participated in a school-wide bookmark contest, morning show, and social media campaign through Twitter and school website.
