Remember doing a book report when you were a kid? Did your report result in something meaningful to others? Did that report educate, influence, or inspire others? Was it something so engaging and fun that you actually WANTED to work on it rather than doing it just because you had to? Experience a series of actual book study projects presented by a rising fifth grader who used free, contemporary technologies to demonstrate his understanding of the narratives while simultaneously influencing others by sharing his work online. Tools that will be demonstrated include timeline and comic strip generators, online audio recorders, virtual avatars, digital poster boards, graphic organizers, multimedia slideshows (PowerPoint Online), and literacy support tools (Read&Write & Read&Write for iPad) with text to speech and word prediction. The student will demonstrate how he used an iPad, Chromebook, and PC to complete the assignments. Leave full of ideas for how to provide options for book studies!
